As a wedding videographer, I have had the privilege of capturing countless love stories in all their beauty and uniqueness. One thing I have found not every couple considers is the time of day they will have their photos and video taken. Too early and bright sun can be in people's eyes during family photos, too late in the day and all the photos will require bright artificial lighting. (Which is a specific aesthetic that some people love!) Each option offers its own enchantment and ambiance, and in this blog post, I will share insights from my experiences to help you decide on the best time of day to have your wedding.
Weddings that take place during the day have a charm all their own, filled with warmth, natural light, and a fresh, vibrant atmosphere. They offer breathtaking outdoor settings, allowing you to exchange vows amidst picturesque gardens, sandy beaches, or stunning landscapes. The abundance of natural daylight enhances the colors, details, and emotions of your special day, creating a soft and radiant ambiance that showcases your love and joy. Daytime celebrations also provide opportunities for outdoor activities such as lawn games, garden walks, and cocktail hours under the sun.
Sunsets are a breathtaking and romantic time of day that can add a touch of magic to your wedding day, regardless of whether you choose a day or night wedding. If you opt for a day wedding, planning your ceremony closer to sunset can create a truly captivating moment. Remember, you will have to plan to have all of your family and friends photos sorted before the sunset starts, because once it get's dark your photos will look completely different. The vibrant colors and the fading light create an enchanting atmosphere, setting the stage for an evening filled with love and celebration. I have to be honest, I think sunset shots are some of my FAVOURITE that I've ever taken.
Weddings that take place in the afternoon to allow for night photoshoots possess a magical vibe, with an romantic atmosphere, twinkling lights, and a sense of intimacy. The soft glow of candlelight, string lights, and lanterns sets a romantic and intimate mood. Nighttime allows for dramatic lighting effects, such as uplighting, spotlights, and creative projections, transforming your venue into a captivating space. A night reception also offers the perfect backdrop for an energetic and lively dance floor, with dimmed lighting, music, and vibrant energy creating an unforgettable experience for you and your guests.
Ultimately, the best time of day for your wedding depends on your vision, preferences, and the overall atmosphere you desire. Consider the venue and its surroundings, evaluating whether they are more captivating during the day or night. Take into account the architectural features, landscape, and lighting options available. Additionally, consider the time of year and the sunset time, as well as your planned itinerary and timeline. Finding a time that allows for a smooth flow and maximizes enjoyment for you and your guests is key.
Deciding between a day wedding and a night wedding is a personal choice that should align with your vision and preferences. Both options offer unique and memorable experiences, whether it's the warmth and natural beauty of a day wedding or the romantic ambiance and twinkling lights of a night wedding. As a wedding videographer, I am honored to capture the magic of your chosen time, ensuring that your cherished moments are beautifully preserved for a lifetime.
